TOE TAG
TOE TAG started with two words in a social-media comment about someone who had passed: toe tag. The phrase sounded like a title, and the song began writing itself. The deeper idea came from grief — the realization that grief can feel like love with nowhere left to go. That became the line, ‘Grief is just love that you can’t give.’ The song grew into something about what remains after somebody is gone: stories, names, memories, old songs and the people who keep talking about you. It also became the song that helped define DIRT COUNTRY and woke up Gravel Rhoades. Two words became a song. The song became a sound. And the sound became DIRT COUNTRY.
“Grief is just love that you can’t give.”
