A dormant song finally given a voice — a song about attraction, emotion and playing the game.

ABOUT THE SONG

SENTIMENTAL PASSION

SENTIMENTAL PASSION is one of the clearest examples of why Gravel Rhoades exists. The song had already been written, then it sat — like thousands of songs do — with no obvious path forward. Songwriters can write all day long, but getting somebody to listen, accept an outside song or take a chance on something unfamiliar has always been another matter. So the song stayed dormant until there was another way to wake it up. The idea, lyrics and emotion were already there. The song is about playing the game — attraction, emotion, chemistry and the complicated push and pull between what somebody feels and what they are willing to show. Some songs do not die. They just wait.

“Some songs don’t die. They just wait.”
LYRICS

WORDS

I was walkin’ out
When she was walkin’ in
Turned around and followed in

We drew the cards
Played them well
Both got scared
And ran like hell

It was
Sentimental Passion
A game we used to play
Sentimental Passion
Now it’s gone away

First time we held hands
We were both makin’ plans
About how it would end
It’s too bad
You never wanted to be my friend

Sentimental Passion
A game we used to play
Sentimental Passion
Now it’s gone away

[Spoken]

True love
Does it even exist
True love, true love
Is just a myth
Just a myth
That first kiss

Hungry 4
That first kiss
That first kiss

Sentimental Passion
It’s just a game we used to play
Sentimental Passion
Now it’s gone away
