MINE

MINE

MINE comes from a Willie Nelson road story told by Willie’s longtime bassist Bee Spears. The story centered on a bus stop, a bust, and the question of who the marijuana belonged to. The answer became the hook: everybody was willing to say it was theirs. About a week later Willie made a public joke about the incident — ‘It’s a good thing it wasn’t spinach, ’cuz I might be dead.’ That line found its way into the song. MINE is a road story passed from someone who was there, turned into Dirt Country.
