ABOUT THE SONG

KARAOKE MOONSHINE

KARAOKE MOONSHINE is a true story from a night of bar-hopping with friends through Hickman County, Tennessee. Written in real time by text, using things that were literally happening: karaoke, secondhand smoke, somebody passing a jar down the bar, horse shit on the sidewalk, animals mounted on the wall, money coming out of a bra, and a fight getting ready to start. And yes, there was a jar along for the ride. Nothing needed to be invented because the night was already writing the song. Interestingly Johnny Cash had a connection to Hickman County, but that was not why the song was written. One night. One county line. One jar. Written one bar at a time.

“We got karaoke. We got moonshine.”
LYRICS

WORDS

Come on down to the Hickman County line
We got karaoke
We got moonshine

Slow dance in secondhand smoke
Step outside, you can take a toke
On the county line

Pass that jar down the bar
Come on, baby
You’re gonna be a star
On the county line

Come on down to the Hickman County line
We got karaoke
We got moonshine

Horse shit on the sidewalk
Animals on the wall
She pulled the money from her bra
Before she started a brawl

Come on down to the Hickman County line
We got karaoke
We got moonshine
