HERE BECOMES THERE

HERE BECOMES THERE

HERE BECOMES THERE is about watching a place change in front of you. A town can have history, music, countryside and an identity that makes it unlike anywhere else. Then people arrive. Development follows. Taxes change. Old places disappear. And the things that made the town worth finding in the first place can slowly get pushed aside. The song speaks from the frustration of someone watching that happen and questioning the decisions being made by local leadership. It is not aimed at one political party or one particular politician. It is about something that can happen almost anywhere: a distinctive place growing until it begins to resemble every other place. Here becomes there.

“Here becomes there when the local politicians don’t care.”

People keep moving in
From all around
Bringing their problems and attitude
This town is going down
This town is going down
Going down, down, down

Once a national treasure
Unlike anywhere
Laden with history
Music
And beautiful countryside

Here becomes there
When local politicians don’t care
Here becomes there
Here becomes there

Greed and taxes
No concern for preservation
Put a fork in it, it’s done
This town is going down
Down, down, down

Here becomes there
When the local politicians don’t care
Here becomes there
Here becomes there
